A public video or clip is all I need; a short vk.cc link is fine, I'll unfold it somewhere over the clouds. I land everything as an MP4. Sound-only trips don't run on this route.

  • A video’s own address on VK, or one that opened over your feed (the address then ends in ?⁠z=video…). Up to 1080p, depending on how it was uploaded, and always MP4.

  • The VK Video site and its app. Links copied from either work the same way.

  • The short vertical ones. They keep their shape, so they still fill a phone screen.

  • VK’s own short links, the kind people drop into posts and chats. Our server opens the short link to find the full address, then fetches the video from there. vk.cc/cAbC12 opens to

  • A wall, a profile or a playlist can hold dozens of videos, so there’s no single file to send. Open the one you want; its own address is the one that works.

  • Adding a video to your own Videos list keeps it inside VK, and your gallery never sees it. The MP4 you get here is a plain file you can move anywhere.

  • VK links come as video only. Paste one and the Audio only choice leaves the box.

  • VK shows these only to members and friends with access, and our server has no account to be let in with.

  • A deleted video leaves nothing to fetch.

  • The cut-off is 60 minutes. Anything longer is refused before it starts.

  • That’s one past the limit of 5 downloads an hour (10 a day). Failed links and a repeat of the same link within 30 minutes are free, and the box shows a countdown to your next slot.

VK community and group videos

Your town probably has a public VK community, and that’s where the week ends up: the school concert filmed from the fourth row, or the local band’s one gig where the sound worked. Often that post is the only recording anyone made. Nobody pins it, so every new post pushes it further down the wall.

If the community is open, that video can come home with you.

Open it from the wall or the community’s Videos tab so it plays by itself, then copy the link and paste it into the pass at the top. Closed communities are members-only, and their videos stay put.

If you know who filmed it, say thanks, and name them when you pass it on. Their arm was up for the whole song.

Where VK videos land on iPhone, Android and PC

Same folder on every device. Almost.

In the VK or VK Video app, tap Share and then Copy link; on vk.com itself, the link is whatever the address bar shows. Once you press Download at the top, this is where the file turns up.

  • iPhone and iPad

    Lands in

    The MP4 goes to the Files app, into the Downloads folder, and Photos never looks in there. That’s why a video can say “downloaded” and still be missing from your camera roll. Fix that from Files: open the video, press Share, choose Save Video.

  • Android

    Lands in

    Chrome drops the MP4 into Downloads. The gallery catches up a few seconds later, usually. If it doesn’t, Files by Google (My Files on a Samsung) has it under Downloads.

  • PC and Mac

    Lands in

    Same place as everything else your browser saves: the Downloads folder. No extra software needed, since Windows and macOS play MP4 as it comes.

Long video, slow connection? Keep the tab open until the file finishes. If the download breaks halfway, tap Save again within about 10 minutes, or paste the link again: the same link within 30 minutes doesn’t use up another download.

VK to MP4 without an app or an account

Plenty of seats left.

You pay nothing here, and there’s nothing to sign in to or install. It saves public VK videos and clips, up to 1 hour long, as MP4 files; there’s no MP3 for VK. Private, friends-only and closed-community videos can’t be saved. Each visitor has 5 downloads an hour and 10 a day, not counting failed links or the same link pasted again within 30 minutes. Videos travel through our server to reach you and aren’t stored there, and a save link is good for about 10 minutes. 9vids has no ties to VK.
