  1. How to download SoundCloud songs on iPhone

    Open the track in the SoundCloud app, tap Share, then Copy link. Back in your browser, drop the link in the cassette deck up top, press Download, and tap Save MP3 when it appears. Your iPhone files the MP3 under Downloads in the Files app, where one tap plays it. Apple Music won't add it to your library by itself.

  2. Where do downloaded tracks go on Android or a PC?

    Android puts the MP3 in Downloads. The Files app shows it at once; a music player can take a minute to catch up. On a PC or Mac, open the Downloads folder and look for the track title and the artist in the file name. From there it drags into your music library or your DJ software like any other MP3.

  3. Does the MP3 keep the song title and artist?

    Yes, both. They're written into the file as ID3 tags, the same labels a bought MP3 carries, so your DJ library doesn't fill up with Unknown Artist.

  4. Do I need a SoundCloud account or an app?

    No to both. Nobody signs in, here or on SoundCloud, and the whole thing runs in your browser. It's free, with a cap that keeps it free: 5 downloads an hour and 10 a day. A link that fails doesn't count, and re-pasting a link within 30 minutes costs nothing. Hit the cap and the minutes to your next one tick down in the box. Each file passes through our server on its way to you, and we don't keep a copy.

Why won't my SoundCloud track download?

These four won't go on the tape.

  1. Go+ tracks

    Without a Go+ subscription, SoundCloud only plays a 30-second preview, and a preview isn't the track. The box says no rather than hand you half a song.

  2. Playlists and albums

    One track at a time, so open the one you're after and take its link from there.

  3. Mixes over an hour

    Our server refuses anything longer than 60 minutes, and plenty of DJ sets run past that.

  4. Deleted or region-blocked tracks

    Deleted means deleted. Once a track is gone from SoundCloud, or blocked where our server sits, there's no stream left to record.

Can I get 320 kbps from SoundCloud?

128 is the truth.

Not a real 320. Free SoundCloud streams top out at 160 kbps (older tracks still play as 128 kbps MP3), and your MP3 comes out at about 128 kbps. A "320" made from that stream is the same sound, re-encoded into a bigger file.

The file grows. The sound stays where it was, because whatever the 128 version left out can't be put back. WAV is the same story, which is why you only get MP3 here.

Why some tracks have no download button

When it's there, theirs beats ours.

SoundCloud's own Download button only appears when the artist switches it on. The file behind it is the one they uploaded, often better than the stream, so if it's there, take theirs. If it sits behind a follow, follow them. No button at all? The box on this page records the stream for your own listening.
